Saw a 44 Special on the web which was at a tractor show, it was supposed to be original(was new paint) paint design, which was ferguson gray and Massey red. Owner said some of the last 1955 Specials were shipped to Ferguson dealers painted that way. If I run across website I will forward to you.

I don't know of gray being used on the 44 Special but occasionally municipalities and other government organizations would either order with a special color or have them painted. Massey Harris is red unless you get to the real old ones - which were green. Another possibilty is that a previous owner didn't like the rate at which the red paint came off the deck so he tried painting it with a primer before final enamel.
