massey 85 3 point hitch

Can anyone out there explain how the three point hitch is supposed to work on an 85 massey with western style control and massey fel. I can make it go up and down with the control lever for the bucket lift if the shut off is open and the position lever is up. seems kind of awkward is this the way it was intended to work or do i have plumbing problems???

I need massy tractors model 275, 285, 290 from Uk because they told me that I can get good price. If I can get good price I will take good number of these tractors because I want to take them to farms in the middle east. I would be gratefull if you can help me.
