i own a MF 35 1959 model, last of the 4 cylinders.
Now i need to change the oil in it, but what oil should i use, there are not a great amount of oil types to chooses from around here:>)
I know it is meant to be SAE 40 but, i can only get that by special order, and i want to change it today or tomorrow, so what do i put in it?
My local agricultural engineer, has:

20w30
15w40
10w40
20w50

so what should i use, i have 20w30 in it, from the last owner buti think it is wrong?
or what is the equivelent of SAE 40?
i live in the uk, and i can't be bothered to get SAE 40 dlivered, it's just to much hastle and expense, all of a sudden carriers don't like taking oil, because of spills etc..
any help is ppreciated..

I agree with the other posters. I have 3 diesel tractors and I run 15W-40 in all of them and have never had a problem. Any brand is OK as long as its API rated for diesel engines.

Dan,

I have a 59 TO35 4cyl Sandard. Ck the regestry.

I run Shell RotellaT 15/40 and have no problem.

Send me an email and we can discuss the TO35. I have done some reasearch and can let you know some other things about your 35.

If it is a diesel have you checked about running the 15w40 oils such as Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo, Mobil Delvac etc. as these are what we use in the semi diesels some have went 100000 mile before overhaul. Also should be easily available.

I'd think that 15W-40 should work just for you just fine. I run it in all my diesels (4)... 2 of which date back to the 1960's...

The modern oils are lots better than anything that was around in the 50's and 60's... Whatever you get, make sure it's API diesel service rated.

Popular in US are...
Shell 'Rotella', Chevron Delo 400....
(I run the Delo 400)
