This must have been a pull type, as I wouldn't think the 35 could pick up a 3PTH John Deere safely!

With something like a 35 there will be troubles steering and keeping the front end on the ground if you try and lift the mower with the 3 point.

As to your tractor (175) being powerful enough, I guess it depends on what you are cutting. For any reasonable activity, it should sail right through.

My 165 diesel SNORTS when cutting 10 year old bullrush clumps with a 6' hog. I have to raise and lower the mower carefully or it will jump around pretty good... even working on a single clump. Tough stuff.

I think 7 foot is too much.

I have a mf180 and it handles my 7ft bushog quite easily. Go for it. You can do it.

Manufacturer Rules of Thumb for Brush Hog/Rotary Cutters (1-2" brush/saplings):

4'- minimum 15 hp @ PTO
5'- minimum 25 hp @ PTO
6'- minimum 45 hp @ PTO
7'- minimum 60 hp @ PTO

Finishing mowers (grass) take a lot less hp. A friend just purchased a 15' Bat-wing and uses the Massey Ferguson 1165 (37 hp PTO)... and that mower weighs about 2600 lbs!

Since your MF175 is about 63 PTO hp, I don't think you'll have any problem using a 7' brush hog... except maybe going into tight area's... tough to fit! (Besides the bargain prices are on 6' and less)

I think the 7' on the MF35 was on the "abuse" side.
