I have a MF 2135

I broke the left front wheel spindle on my 2135U and after pulling out the shaft found the thrust bearing fried, and virtually fused to the housing. How do I get the upper part of the thrust bearing, and the bushings (top and bottom) out? Do I need to remove the axle, radiator, etc. and the loader?

Thanks
Ray

That is an excellent question. Mine are currently at DeVall Brothers Machine in Morgantown getting the thrust bearings pulled and what's left of the spindle bushings milled out. Material has to be added to the spindles where there was steel on steel contact. Fifteen dollars in parts and likely at least a hundred in labor but they have yet to be finished so I really don't know yet. Good luck with yours, but remember that what is wrong with one side is likely wrong with the other. Hope your machine shop is nice to you. Aaron

Well folks. I got them out with the help of a bushing savvy neighbor. First took a sawsall and carefully cut the bushing. The brass bushing was soft enough that I could get a thin/sharp chisel behind it at the groove, and bull it/fold it over. Then did the same at the bottom one, and drove it out from the top. This caused what was left of the bearing to pop loose and fall out. Then figured out there is a liner. So carefully popped it out with the chisel.

Now I"m waiting for the parts from the dealer.

Doing both sides.

I am glad your efforts were effective. My tractor was purchased in a very poor state and I am now replacing stuff I did not even know existed. My front spindles were worn well past the bushings/bearings until the tube was eating out the hub assembly. The amazing part is that the tractor drove fairly well. I guess the power steering covered up the problems. Admittedly I only drove it from the trailer to the shop, but I noticed nothing wrong. Perhaps if I would have tried to work it, the problem would have surfaced. Good Luck, Aaron

Hi Ray,
I'm assuming that your 2135 is similar to the 35/135 etc. It is often easy to not realise that the top part of the bearing is still in the axle. Jack the tractor up safely and fit a wedge under the axle to gain as much access as possible. Really there is nothing short of hacking it out. If you can get a thin chisel up the side and 'close' it, that should be easier. Otherwise just try and split the bearing case. As far as the king-pin is concerned, gentle chisel work is needed to split it in the right place. Good luck
