If you could purchase a TO35 or an 8N for about the same price, which would it be an why? I have about 3ac. to move and do some light tractor work on.

My father had an 8N, then a TO-20, then a 135. He commented that the 8n was not up to the task, the TO-20 was a glorified 8N and the 135 gasser (which is essentially a To-35 with newer bodywork) worked circles around both of them. My distant memory recalls the 8N sitting in tall weeds all the time. BTW, we still have the 135. Aaron

Buy the TO-35 and paint it 8N colors.

8N is not nearly as much tractor as the TO-35 Fergie or NAA Ford. The TO-35 and NAA are comparable if the 35 does not have the two stage clutch. If it does, the 35 has more capability. All this is subject to condition being same across all the tractors, of course. I will say if the 35 has a two stage clutch, and the clutch needs to be replaced, that is very expensive, more so than a single clutch.

Richard:

I own both a very good 8N with Sherman combo transmission (12 speed) and 2 MF-35s with Perkins diesel engines. Though I love my 8N and use it regularly for many tasks, it does not compare to the MF-35s, which are very similar to the TO-35.

The 8N does not have either live hydraulics or live PTO while the TO-35 MAY have both. The TO-35 will also have at least 25-30% more HP than any stock 8N.

AS for the Jubilee: The Jubilee has live hydraulics but almost certainly does not have live PTO. The TO-35 has both IF equipped with the dual clutch.

Though I an a true blue/red/grey Ford guy, either of my MF-35s will do as much work as my very good 55 860, which is abour 35% more tractor than a Jubilee and almost 50% more than my VERY good 8N. Additionally, the 35s with 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engines will use about 1/2 the fuel to do the same work as my 860 gasser.

Though Fergusons and MFs do not seem to bring quite the price that many Fords do, a TO-35 should bring at least 33% more than an 8N in similar condition.

Hope this helps.

Dean

I"ve now found a Jubilee. Would you go with a TO35 or a Jubilee? Price for the Jubilee is $2750 and the TO35 is $2800

IF the TO 35 is a dual clutch machine and is in as good or better condition than the Ford it would be a better buy the only negative is that some of the early TO35's had a 4cly diesel engine. Many folks like these engines but the problem in North America is that the parts are harder to find and more expensive They can be difficult to start even in milder climates. This would be a Model to try to stay away from.

TO35 is a real tractor. 8N is a toy.
