got a 255 which jumps out of 3rd!!! on a heavy load or down hill... not good but figured it was just part of it. Would like to know if there's an easy fix for it too?

Don't think there's much that can be done; had the same problem on my 44 Special and always considered it a design defect. Usually popped out under heavy load like plowing. If there is a cheap fix, I'd like to know also.

You have a bad(worn)detent or ball in your shifter rail 0r the end(Ball) of your shifter lever is worn lopsided,Could be either or both,Massey had to change a bunch of Rails back in the 40s-50s due to THE SHALLOW DETENT OF THE FIRST GEAR.Since then we have only fixed one or two.
