Yet another question on hydraulics for 65 Massey. My 3 pt hitch seems to lift ok but creeps down fairly quick. I lift the mower up and it goes back down almost as fast. I just got this tractor so not sure of the history. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks

Just from an experience only perspective with this setup. My grandfathers one 65 has the two levers that you do. One is for the three point, the other controls one remote. The position lever will not directy control the three point with this setup. It will, however influence the raised height of the three point. What I notice when using the brush hog is that sometime the mower will not pick up all the way. This is because the factory lift lever has slowly moved down on it's own. If you pull it back up to the raised position, the three point will come up all the way.

There is a small rectangular cover under the right front corner of the seat. The hydraulic oil makes a U-turn through that cover. There is a small vertical pipe inside that connects the hydraulic pump to that cover with O-rings at each end. If your 3 point hitch drops that fast, one of those O-rings is probably blown. Make sure the lift is down before you remove that cover. Otherwise, you will have an oil geyser.

Thanks for the response guys.I guess I should mention the tractor has 2 external Hydraulic levers mounted where the plate that you refer to was situated. So I presumed that pipe would also connect the hydraulics. I see 2 Allen bolts that I think hold the 2 lever assembly on. But I also notice the original position lever and draft levers seem to do nothing. Should they? Or would they have been disconnected when the external hydraulics were installed? I'm thinking I should be able to raise and lower the 3 pt arms with that position lever. Thanks

If you lock the left lever back, the standard controls should work. The blown o-ring theory applies to the remote valve too.

sounds like it may be in need of a rebuild on the work cylinder. Mine did the same thing after rebuilding the pump unit. Then I put in new rings and found the problem.
