Can I use a Torch on this?

I have a MF203 with a MF220 backhoe. I have to replace one of the metal hydraulic lines that go into the backhoe control levers at the seat. The nut between line and the 3/4 adapter nut that goes into the control level is rusted with age and liquid wrench has been no help.

Can I heat it with a torch or will I damage anything? Any other ideas to get it free?

Thanks!

I run into this problem quite frequemntly. First try tapping it wiht a hammer. If that dosn't work you can use a torch, as little heat as possible. The seals in the valve will take the heat, but it's likely that they would need replacing anyway.

Can you hold a solid weight of any sort against the back and give it a clout with a hammer or a piece of solid bar? Works wonders sometimes. You must hold the weight as solidly as possible.

If you can find a product called PB Blast. Works great, beats anything else. Spray the rusted part liberly and let it set over night. I have removed rusted exhaust bolts and yesterday used it to remove the wheels on an old reel type mower. Can be found in most auto stores.

To much rubber inside control valve to risk heat. Have you considered a pipe wrench? Are you trying to save fittings?

I was kinda hoping to save the metal line, it is custom bent and will end up costing me $$ if I can even find it. The Larger bolt turns freely in the hydraulic control but it is frozen to the smaller bolt and the line. This is causing the line to start to twist and it looks like it will rupture. Does anyone know where I can get this line and about how much it costs?

Gerry...Could you undo the hydraulic hose at the bottom of the steel line then rotate the entire assembly out?(it should be okay to bend the steel line some). After the line and two frozen fittings were removed you could work on a bench. If there is lift truck repair shop or an industrial/commercial parts supplier near by you could check them for parts. One of these places should be able to make you new steel lines and or hoses.

I was hoping not to have to bend it any, but may have to. I was born the year this was made.... and neither of us bend as well as we used to!

I'll drop a note in after this weekend to tell of my success!

garvas is dead on with the PB blaster! gerry I just had the same thing on a 580 case. I had to buy a 182.00 dollar set of crow foot wrenches and do like Gary F told you. I know what you mean about not bending anymore LOL
