mf 148 won't move

Driving casually on the road yesterday going to make some hay when I changed down a gear and suddenly the tractor stopped moving. tried all gears but nothing- no noise or anything. I opened filler plug and tried gear shift. The selector moves ok and gears can be seen turning when small lever is in neutral, but when it is put into h or l the gears stop turning. Whats gone wrong - clutch or the gearing?

That would be your clutch either slipping or the center hub in the disc is broke out.

Thankyou for your prompt reply. I am somewhat relieved it is merely a clutch problem. I'll start to split it when the hay is finished
