Well, now that one runs, the other needs attention. It's a 1959 Massey 65 Diesel, the injection pump was swaped to the other tractor so the pump that I have on the bench needs rebuilt. My/ my grandfather's question is: are there complete reman engines availible for this unit? It's a 4-203 perkins, injectors sit vertical in the head. The one in the tractor ran until the pump was pulled, but has low oil pressure when warm, blows thick blue smoke under a load, and has a light popping out of the intake when running. Is this engine worth pulling apart to rebuild, or would the best bet be to find a reman/ running one? Thank you.

Scott

Which continent are you on? The 192 engine wasn't used in the U.S.

I'm in Ireland, So maybe the 192 was only used in Europe, From what I found when looking for parts there could be one of three perkins used in the 65 -- A4.203, AD4.203 and the A4.192

From what I can see the A4.203 and A4.192 are almost identical flat top pistons, verticle injectors, same setup on the oil pan..... I'm not sure about the bore size though.....

Good to see these machines have travelled the world....

Just want to mention that if this tractor is a Mark 1 65 then it is probably the a4.192 engine. I'm not sure what the difference between 192 and the 203 is as they both have the verticle injectors I guess the bore is a different size. Maybe somebody can confirm this...

These perkins engines are as tough as nails, and if your block and head have no cracks and none of the main bearings have spun then I would definitly go for the rebuild.

At the moment I'm rebuilding a a4.192. The total cost of the parts is around the 600euro mark that includes a new oil pump, engine kit and valve train kit.

A samll price in my opinion.....

I just reread your original message. I forgot about the low oil pressure. I guess you will probably have to do bearings too.

I haven't heard of reman's being available, its hard to imagine that there is enough demand, but you never know.

If it is a sleeved engine a rebuild would not be that difficult or expensive (I would think). Especially if you have a good engine machine shop near by. You could have them do the machining and you do the assembly and save some labour dollars. If the engine is not beat up real bad and you are not going to use it hard alot you might be able to get away with just sleeves, rings and a head job.

Good luck.
