I have a MF 203 industrial. Perkins 3 Diesal, 1961. Runs good but very low oil pressure after and hour or 2.

What is a fair price to expect for someone to rebuild the motor? (Parts & labor)

Am I better off buying a motor already rebuilt? Can anyone recommend a source.

Hi there. I have a MF 65 with the A4-192 diesel engine, From the beginning this engine has always had a high oil pressure. And, as time has went by, the oil pressure has increased and increased. So, now it is in the middle of the red area on the high side.

How fun it is to see that we have different problems. :-) Maybe I should go and see in the back of the tractor if there is any oil drilling equipment there, connected to the oil pressure gauge.

:-) Hm, well, jokes aside, I wonder if my oil pressure gauge is getting a weaker and weaker spring, and this could be the reason for higher readings. If so, this tells me that maybe it would be wise to buy a more accurate pressure gauge, to check what the pressure really is.

Hi Gerald
Im not sure that doing a in frame rebuild is the best way to go as I had a fair bit of trouble with my 203 motor and was lucky not to end up with a broken crank shaft, it showed up as excessive end float and I couldnt adjust the second stage of the clutch to work properly after rebuilding the clutch, to get at the problem I took the motor out and the sump off finding the thrust washers had fallen out, the crank shaft had worn into the journal and needed this area rebuilding then new over size thrust washers were fitted. I didnt rebuild the rest of the motor at that time being unsure of how succesful the repair would be, so far its done about 200 hours and is working fine.

I might add that the motor I have is a four cylinder AD4-203 fitted to a MF165, its a very simular motor to the three cylinder motor as fitted to your tractor and would be the same around the thrust washers. If the motor dosnt develop any bearing noise when it gets hot may be its best to leave well alone and keep the oil changes up to it on a regular basis.

I have heard this complaint about 3 cylinder Perkins diesels ever since I started reading this board. Are you sure your engine is sick? Those gauges do slowly move toward the red as the oil gets hotter.

After a few hours' work my 1961 MF35 will move into the red if I slow it down to idle, but it stays up o.k. if I keep it above 800. It uses very little oil, starts very well in winter or summer, and has lots of power. I don't think it needs an overhaul.

Are you using 15W40 oil formulated for a diesel?

Yep took much advice from people here (thanks all!) and oil changed to 15W40 rotella. I been told that I'm getting a fair amount of blow by (the oil does dribble out of the oil filler dip stick when running... I was told that this is blow by) and after an hour or 2 she does go into the red, If I keep the RPM's up It does come up to the bottum of the green. The engine always seems strong. I figured I'd run her until she breaks..... and then get it fix. Who knows it may last years! (has so far!)

How about doing an "in-frame" and rolling in new rod and main bearing inserts?

Now that sounds real interesting.... what is it and about how much does it cost? Know anyone in Michigan that does it?

Thanks for your help!
