My fianc and I have just moved into a new house that sits on 9 acers. We bought a Massey 135 from the previous owners to bush hog the open space on the property.

I have driven the tractor several times trying to get used to it. I am a city boy and this is my first tractor. I love it!!!!

I got a bush hog squealer this week and it was dropped off today while I was at work. The guys who brought it over left me a note and a diagram for some parts that my 3 point hitch is missing - a top link and stabalizer bars. The top link I understand and found references to in the 135s operator's manual. Can I get a top link at my local tractor shop or do I need to go to one that sells Massey tractors?

The note also indicates that I need two stabalizer bars that go from the same attachment poit on the bush hog as the lowers links and some place on the tractor. Do I need these? I can not find a reference to them in the Massey manual or the bush hog manual.

thanks
James

Thanks for all the info. My Massey dose indeed have the brackets for the stabablizer bars on it. I got the top link and a pair of stabalizer bars today. I hope to be bush hogging soon.

James

I have a 135 and a 5' bush hog I pull with it. Should have no problem with it. I had straps with mine but they can bend. i bought a adjustable for mine and it works well and you only need the one. like a previous post said just look under the axels where the fenders attach there should be a pin to hook it to. Good luck and enjoy

James...before you go out and buy the stablizer straps you need to look under each of your fenders where they bolt to the axle to see if you have the brackets and pins to attach one end of the straps to(under axle). You must have the correct brackets for a MF. The centerpoint of the pin on the bracket will line up with the centre of the pivot point of the lower lift arm. If not parts will bend/break. If you 135 does not have brackets you will need to locate source for parts (dealer or wrecking yard) the brackets are fairly common unless you have an Orchard model! You can still use the mower it will just wander from side to side as you move along.

If you have the option, I prefer the stabilizer chains to the solid bars which are more like steel straps than solid bars anyway... I have a 5" Squealer behind my 35 seems to be a good match. Previous reply about the gearbox lube is good advice. Get yourself a grease gun for the U-joints on the PTO shaft. If you got the shear pin shaft get a few spares of the pins.

Toplink and stabalizers should be available at the the local tractor shop. stabalizer bars keep the bush hog from moving side to side while mowing.

You can find a top link at the local tractor supply.....probably stabilizer bars as well. The stabilizer bar can be as simple as a flat piece of steel or it can be adjustable. You might want to check the gear box oil just to make sure they filled it as most new "shreaders" come with an empty gear box.
