I HAVE MY 44-6 ENGINE AT THE MACHINE SHOP BECAUSE OF LOW COMPRESSION (90lbs) AND NEEDS A VALVE JOB. THE WORST NEWS CAME TODAY, THE BLOCK IS CRACKED ALONG THE 3 FROST PLUGS, THE MACHINE SHOP SUGGESTED TO EPOXY THE CRACK, AS LONG AS I DO NOT WORK THE TRACTOR, I GAVE A CALL TO A OBSOLETE CONTINENTAL ENGINE PARTS STORE, THEY HAVE A BLOCK FOR A F-244 ENGINE, SAID IT WOULD WORK INPLACE OF THE F-226 CONTINENTAL BLOCK, AND EVERYTHING WOULD FIT IN PLACE, ANY SUGGESTIONS OUT THERE OR ADVICE.

Obvious difference is piston diameter. Continental L Head engine book also shows difference in piston pins and valve springs in head although valves same dia - so it looks like so long as you are planning to do pistons anyway, you couldf get away with F244 (not F245) Stock Compression of F226 is 6.02 vs 6.9:1 - but question may be cost unless you are getting a sweet deal on block and pistons - there should be a lot more 226 parts out there compared to the 244 which was only used in the I244 and an Oliver Combine as I recall - maybe some forklifts, but I think those were F245 - note the F227 and F245 replaced the F226 and F244 and I am not sure what interchanges.

WOULD THE CRANKSHAFT, CAMSHAFT ALL TRANSFER FROM THE 226 ENGINE TO A 244 BLOCK WITH NO PROBLEM?
