I have a Massey-Harris #6 Sickle mower that I am about to use for the first time and I have a few questions. The first one is where the pitman arm connects to the sickle blade, is that suppose to be tight or a little loose? Currently, I have it somewhat loose and when I engage the pto, it bangs around and this doesn't seem right. Can someone shed some light on this. My next question is the hand adjustment lever that controls the height of the blade itself. I was wondering if anyone could provide any pictures when the blade is down and where this handle is suppose to be as well as when the blade is up for transport. I think mine is in need of some adjustment as it looks like it maybe cobbled together. Any help is greatly apprecitated.

Thanks,

Paul in TX

When attaching the pitman to the sickle put a good sized dab of grease in both cups and then tighten it snug, as it needs to move a little but don"t want it to slop. As far as the lift lever goes, the first thing we did was take it off and installed a hydraulic cylinder on the mower. I drug four different ones around and around in the mid 70"s was VERY HAPPY when we bought a Dyna balance MF mower in the late 70"s.

Good Luck and if you want to make a trip to SWMN you can have what is left of them as they are going to the scrap iron man this summer.

Why don't you try advertizing the mowers here instead of scrapping them.If it were not so far,I would come up and get them myself. They were a good mower in their day.Sure was better than the old IHC mower that went on the drawbar of the Farmall Regular we had.You didn't take it off in 5 minutes.
