MF35-problem

I have recently brought a 4 cyl petrol working MF. The sediment bowl was full of grit so I cleaned it out and replaced gaskets etc for the 28g carburetter. My problem is she starts OK, idles ,but when I push up the hand control it doesnt rev up.
What have I stuffed up?
So when I engage in 1st gear and High she just about conks out.No power.
Help

Check to see if the carb linkage to governor is hooked up sounds like it may be unhooked. If you can move linkage by hand at carb to see it it revs up you will be able to track it down more. did it work ok before?

rod,yes I'm afraid it did work before, checked linkaged to governor it's connected,
I'll try the manual approach
