I just purchased a MF 165 Diesel. Overall it seems to be in excellent shape. It had a recent profesional engine overhaul. One problem so far. The hydraulics for the three point seem to work ok when the tractor is running but when the tractor is turned off it will immediately leak down and not hold up my six foot box scraper. I'm fairly new to tractors and this doesn't seem to be right. I have ordered the maintenance manual for it. If this is'nt right, any info on the fix would be appreciated. Thanks.

Man, let me tell you what you have there.I'm in the same shape as you.I live in southwest Louisiana and this time of year its either raining or cold.I have 7.5 acers of land ,and I needed to move my father-in-laws 30,000 lb trailor on it.Needless to say everything we had was stuck to the axles; two dualley's ,and ,regular cab ford all stuck.I looked up and saw my neighbor had a mf 165 in his feild.I walked over and talked to him. he said that he hasn't started it in over a year. It was out of desiel and he left it there.I said can I use it.He said," be my guest if it starts."I put desiel in it and didn't bleed it. It started right up.It has no seat, the body is about rusted away, and he had car tires on the front of it.That tractor walked everything out and pulled the trailor where I needed it. By the way, his hydualic leaked to.When it gets warm it will work but until then its like you have none.I just wanted you to know what you have. And by the way he won't sell it to me.Ha! Ha! have a great time with your tractor.

Good morning John -

The fix is a (gasp/wheeze\choke!!!) John Deere, Ford, Allis.....

Settling after shut-down is the nature of the Masseys. They use a piston and rings like an engine in their lift ram, and it bypasses oil.

Even with this weakness, they're still the best older units available!
