I have a 1962 MF 35 tractor with starter drive problems. I am continuing to shear- off homemade brass pins. My question: Are the clutch and the pinion gear separate parts of the bendix only connected by the shear pin? Be kind little money. James

I am new to MF tractors. Have only owned a 35 for one year but have been very happy with it. Your question-I have not seen the actual pin you are talking about but it sounds like you have more torque in the starter motor than the pin can handle. I have never seen a brass drive pin, how about making a new one out of a drill blank? If you can't find a blank the right size, cut off and old drill (correct size-of course)that is dull but has a clean, unscared shank and fashion a new one. I make things like this all the time and have good luck. The drill blanks/bits are good steel but not too hard to work fairly easily. Hope this helps

Les..Thank you very much for your thoughts on my problem as for now it looks like the pin I made is holding. I only recently bought the tractor. He said it is a 1962 model serial# SGM 233556.. I have loaded 2 pictures at Link and Link I just got a manual on CD today. According to it I do not have a external solenoid (Ford type) can any one tell me whats going on.
