My MF50 gets stuck in gear sometimes, and I have to remove the transmission top cover to unstick it. This keeps on occuring now, and I was wondering if anyone might know what a long term fix might be. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you, Chris Blair

Hi Chris;

I've had the same problem with my TO-35. I replaced the detent plungers and springs and that seems to have corrected it. Also, I am more careful when shifting, so that might help as well.
To get things lined up again, you should be able to access the shifting forks using a long screwdriver through the oil filler plug on the tranny cover, eliminating the need to remove the cover.
As for unauthorized use, pocket the key! ;-)

Good luck,

Roger

Roger, Thanks, I missed that thing about the transmission plate, of course the oil filler plug is the way to go. I have a small pry bar that worked perfectly the times when it happened to me.

I don't know about a fix, but Big Dean recommends applying a little downward pressure when changing gears, and that has pretty much resolved it for me. I just place my palm on the ball and apply a little pressure when shifting. C. T.

Thank you for your response! I shall incorporate that into my normal operating procedure and see how it goes. The tough part will be keeping my kids off that thing when I'm not around!! Thanks! Chris
