I have a model 31 mower with shims under the guards. The sections run about 1/8 inch above the wear plates on the guards. Should the sections be running on the wear plates? Are thinner shims avilable or should I remove the shims?

According to my parts list/exploded drawings there are just one thickness of shims (that is 1/32") thats used. First shim next to the bar is called a wear plate shim, next is the wear plate, next is the other shim called a knife clip shim and then the knife clip (low arch or high). As I stated above both shims are 1/32" thick. I suppose you could get them ground down at a machine shop if you would like them thinner. good luck
