Mine is a "58 UK built with a perkins diesel. I am looking at my parts manual on CD and I want to know if I have a direct injection or regular diesel and can someone explain the difference to me? If I remember the numbers correctly it is a perkins AD.192....

Early UK built 65's had Perkins A4-192 indirect injection engines, and will have seial no begining SNY. As well as the injector difference the 192 had a smaller fuel tank to allow space for 2x 6 volt batteries. The MkII 65 had Perkins AD4-203 direct injection engine and the serial no will begin SNDY. They were produced from November 1960

The US engine and I think the UK models also. The regular injection engines have combust chamber caps on the left side of the head The direct injection engines do not have them.

The Perkins 4.192 is indirect injection (Mk1 tractors) the 4.203 Perkins is direct injection in the Mk2 65 and also went in the early 165 tractor

The 192 wasn't used in the U.S. We had 203 regular injection engines in the early 65s.

I can only speak for the 203 engines sold in the U.S. The injectors in the regular injection engine were vertical whereas in the direct injection they were at a 45 degree angle. I think Perkins switched to direct injection around 1962.

Bob, I can only speak for my 1964 FE35 and it not an AD3-152, it is an A3-152. Now if John's interpretation of the numbers is correct, the "D" stands for direct injection. I am no expert, that is what I remember from other comments on this site. Also, that is what my parts catalog says. C. T.

Well now I have to say this... I am not positive about the engine number including a (D). I am only trying to remember what I read or was told sometime in the past. The 192's were early perkins that were only in the British models, right? Will there be a number somewhere I can verify this? Most of the serial tag is missing except for the serial number itself. Would the engine size have been on the tag originally? I will look today to see if my injectors are vertical or forty fived. I bought a parts manual on CD that I highly recommend for anyone. That in conjunction with Big Dean's CD is the way to go.

Richard is right on the mark, mine is a A4.192. I found the information on Friends of the Ferguson webpage. Mine is a "regular injection" with the vertical injectors.
