I recently purchased a TO35 and I'm having problems
engaging the engine PTO. It goes into gear but
only after much force and a terrible grinding and goaning. I did as all good Fergie owners
should, and consulted my manual. If I understand
correctly there are 2 positions with the dual clutch (hence its name. I can only find one. Is the obvious answer that I need to adjust
the clutch or am I missing a more obvious answer?
Please help the snow is gone and I need to do the
spring plowing.

Great tractor; common problem.

First, check free play - should be about 3/4" or so.

Next is adustment of the PTO clutch itself. This can be done by removing
the plate under the flywheel, and adjusting the PTO clearance with the three bolts accessible with difficulty from beneath. The factory manual suggests .090" on these; we've had better success with .055 - .060".

I strongly recommend picking up a copy of the I&T shop manual - $20 from Central Tractor - shows the appropriate bolts.

If you'd like more info, drop me an e-mail.

What is an I&T Manual? Is Central Tractor the same store as the Farm and Country in Des Moines? Just purchased a Ferguson 30 (TO? TE?) no manuals or literature of any kind. I need anything I can find to help me get her up to her original beauty.

Thanks,
Greg

A shop manual - illustrated, detailed, accurate - published by Intertec.
