Perkins 152-3 diesel. It will run along just fine, then all at once, RPMs increase about 200-300, then settle back to what I"ve got it "set" at. It ONLY does this when I"m running PTO equipment. (tiller, bush hog, ect)

Monday, I started it to hook up a bush hog. It ran fine for about 5 minutes, then revved a bit before dying. I had to purge the fuel system of air before it"d start. (RPMs were going up and down BEFORE and AFTER this event) I never got any air out, but after going through the entire "fuel filter change" regiment, it started and ran fine. About 2 hours into bush hogging, the up and down RPMs returned. It does this about every 10 to 15 minutes while running. (Doesn"t EVER do it while engine is cool. (i.e. just running for a couple minutes)

Fuel is clean and fresh. Filters are new. No dirt or water in system. all fittings are tight. (not sucking air that I can tell)

Any suggestions? I"m baffled.

I was told that "surging" is one of the first signs that the IP is in need of being serviced (governor is going). The reason that I was told is because I was asking why my 2705 is surging like that on occasion, but only when under moderate load. My 2705 also has what I would call a flutter (like a very slight miss) at medium to high revs (1200 plus).

Hopefully yours is something that costs less to fix than an IP rebuild.

Good Day, JP.
