Well I have taken this carb apart so many times I think I'm goping to wear out the screws. This is on a MH 30 and its a M-S carb. The tractor runs great as long as the main jet adjust screw is out of the carb but if you so much as start putting it back in the tractor dies. Some one said something about a vent on the carb but for the life of me I can't find one any where. I'm about to try takeing parts from another carb and tring that but don't really want to put parts that don't have the correct numbers on this tractor. HELP please
Thanks
By the way I'm not new to carbs but this one has me lost

I'm having ssimiliar carb problems with a M-F 202 workbull with Continental 134 engine. The tractor runs for about 30 seconds and the dies. If I walk away for an hour and start it again, the same thing hapens. I have replaced the float and the fuel metering valve, the seats and the needle valve. I just gave up and ordered a new carb. Stymied as well

Old, the vent on the carb begins in the inlet side of the carb I believe it's ahead of the choke and it is part of a series of drilled passages that connects the fuel bowl to the carb inlet. It's sometimes called the pressure balance tube because it makes the mixture ratio independent of a dirty air cleaner by "balancing" the pressure in the fuel bowl to the inlet pressure. Look real close in the carb inlet and you'll see a hole. As I said in my previous post, I think that it's blocked and the fact that you can't find it makes me believe that I'm right.Almost every carb made has some method to vent the fuel bowl to the air inlet of the carb. The M-S carbs use a series of drilled passages.

I'll look it over close again. I tried to find some thing like that the other day but didn't find any thing. I did check each hole I could see and made sure it was open by spraying carb cleaner in each and every hole I saw but I could have missed one.
Thanks. Funny thing is how well it runs as long as the power adjust screw is out of it. I drove it the other day and it had a lot of power for haveing a messed up carb

old,
Been there. Had a ford 3000 w/holley carb that would not run, so threw the holley away and replaced it w/ MS carb from junkyard. I to have had a long running w/carbs, but that junkyard MS gave me headaches. I tore that carb down so many times that I could put it together in my sleep. It did the same as you are talking about, would run until you put the jet in. I finally went thru it with an eagle eye, found a piece of rust in the bottom of the bowl that had flaked off and was blocking the jet holes. Again,it went into the dip to be cleaned again, finally after upteen rebuildings and pulling my hair out, I got the thing to run. That was 10yrs ago, its still running. Good luck...
