MF 25 Hydraulic Problem

I have a MF 25 that has been sitting for a couple of years. After replacing the battery, it started right up, but when I tried to use the hydraulic lift, pressure must have built up because the hydraulic oil filter body split with a loud pop. Oil (with a white foam) started leaking out of the cracked oil filter body.

I was able to locate a used hydraulic oil filter body to replace the cracked one, so I flushed out the hydraulic oil system as best I could, put 5 gallons of fresh oil in the system (as per the owners manual) and fired the tractor up. Things were fine until I tried to use the hydraulic lift. Once again, I heard a loud pop as the replacement oil filter body cracked and oil (still with a white foam) started gushing out of it.

So now Im not sure what to do. My thought is that I have a stuck relive valve, but I wanted to get some advice from the forum before I went off in the wrong direction. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated to help me solve this problem.

Also, the parts manual I have for my tractor lists both a MF 25 and 130. Are parts for the MF 25 and 130 interchangeable? I see a lot more parts for a 130 than I do for a 25.

Thanks in advance Niko

Hope i have info you can use, but here is my initial thoughts. You are questioning the relief valve, this should not be operating during a normal lifting of the hitch arms, its set at 2000psi so you are looking at a lot of strain to operate it. your filter[ under seat/on top of housing] hasen't got a chance to survive.
So it sounds that from sitting a few years the spool valves have seized in place in the main valve body, either one or all three! this being the case you might of also dislocated the operating cams or draft linkage inside the housing. time to take it apart and check everything. you can lift the hitch arms up easily? by hand, doing so does not move the piston as its a seperate piece[ ball/socket] tpye of connection where they meet. There are a lot of parts switchable between the 25 and 130, one thing is the regulating hyd valve is different between the two, and if you order a piston seal $$$$ i should have the replacment seal number around here that is aftermarket and much less$$$$.
The I&T manual is available through this site, the one you need is MF-25, covers just about everything you will need to repair and how stuff operates also shows/lists machine differences.
If you start to take it apart, make note of where stuff is, not a big problem to remove, but a few adjustments have to be percise when installing it, deal with that later.
good luck

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and pull the cover this weekend and have a look inside. Hopefully I'll see something obviously wrong and know where to focus my attention. I've got and manual to help me out, but I'll be sure to give a holler if I get in over my head trying to fix the old girl.

Thanks again.
