Is it possible to put a perkins diesel in my MF35? Mine has the 4cylinder gas engine. It's model year is 1958.I looked up the specs for the MF35 and you could either get the gas or diesel for that model. To my knowledge, they were identical exept for the difference in engines....Is this right? Can I get a perkins and put it in my tractor? any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Dale

The Perkins is taller so I believe you'll need a fuel tank from a diesel MF35 for clearance.

It can be done. You will most likely be changing the front casting(part that bolts to the front of the engine)you must try to get a complete running engine. It would be quite expensive and time consuming to locate all individual parts. Is there something wrong with the gas engine?

Hello Dale

I started to reply when the news broke about the missing miners being found alive .
Now, the clutch will need upgrading with a bit of study to make sure you have the correct combination to fit onto the Perkins .
check the front of the motor where it meets the axle mount and the radius arms and steering rods need shortening.
use a after market wiring loom for the Diesel.
set up the diesel fuel filters as they are on an original diesel model.
done properly you wont regret doing this conversion.

Cheers Arthur from Tassy

Somebody here might prove me wrong, but I think a Perkins AD 3.152 should bolt straight in. Good luck. Chris.

thanks guys, nothings really wrong with the gas burner, it"s just that I live in central N.C. and when bush hogging in the summer for long peroids of time, the engine starts to overheat, ping and detonate, and it doesn"t have enough low-rpm torque. I think the diesel would be much better

thanks again

Dale

Dale perhaps you might consider a bit larger tractor like a MF65 diesel. You would most likely spend less trading up than replacing engines OR YOU COULD NAVE 2 TRACTORS!!! ;7)
