1135 Reverse Problem

I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. I have recently purchased an 1135 with 4600hrs on it. The tractor runs well but in reverse, frequently jumps out of gear when in motion. The shifter is on the dash and when putting it into gear, the shifter doesn't seem to "fully engage". I get what feels to be about a half shift out of it and when I engage the clutch the tractor backs up fine but will at some point jump out of gear. No issues with any other gear. I have removed the panels from the dash to look at the linkage and from what I can see things look ok. I'm about to do a full restoration on this machine but don't want to get into too much body and paint until I know the mechanical is sound. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have both an 1135 and 1155.....I once had a problem with my 1135 not staying in park.....ended up taking the foot throttle out of the middle of steering column and it was packed full of dirt, wouldn't let the linkage move to fully engage into parking gear. May want to make sure that area behind the foot throttle where all your linkages are is clean. Also might be a problem with the detent balls in the transmission.....have had to replace them before on our 1155 and also our 4900 4 wheel drive Masseys. Good luck

Thanks! I'm actually getting ready to go out and have a look at this now. First order of business will be to thoroughly clean in the console around the linkage etc. I'll do an inspection and see if the linkage is actually hitting something (that's what it feels like it is doing). Hopefully this turns out to be a simple fix. To replace the detent balls, does the tranny need to be removed or can it be done in place by removing console?
