Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and need some help identifying backhoe attchments that will fit a MF 1240, 4wd, with a 1246 loader. I've surfed for hours and can't seem to find any solid info. Any suggestions?

I have a 1240 like yours with a Kelly 3 point backhoe on it. It works fine anf really makes nice ballast to move dirt with the loader. My backhoe has the seperate PTO pump.

Thanks Larry. I get a lot of conflicting advice on 3pt-vs-frame. You are the first to respond that actually has the same tractor with one on it. What is the size and model of your Kelly?

It is a Kelly B-15A with a 16" bucket. It will dig almost 8' deep. I have had about 5 years and used it to put all the underground utilities in when I built my house and to dig out stumps. As far as 3 point verus frame mount, I think the frame mount is better but with the brackets and stabilizers on my kelly it seems fine and has caused no trouble. The only trouble I have had is with the 1246 loader.

Thanks Larry. I'll only use mine for light digging and small stumps. Have a good weekend.

If you get a TPH backhoe you are really taking a chance. There have been quite a few compact tractors broken by them. Sure there are owners out there that are using TPH hoes on compacts, but there are also owners that have had to put their tractors on a trailer in two pieces because of them. Get a hoe with a sub-frame and then you won't have to worry about damage. I have had a MF 1250 with a MF 1217 BH and now have a MF 1440 with a MF 1475 hoe. BTW, I answered your question on the other forum.

Thanks Jerry. The more I read, the more concern I have over the TPH. A local MF dealer is looking into a 1570 with a subframe. He said that he needed to call AGCO. I'll check the other forum. The more I read, the more questions I have. Would you recommend a pump or adapting? Thanks...

It's a good thing that your dealer is making the call. That backhoe is for a smaller frame tractor. You need a MF 1575 for your MF 1240.

Jerry, I need a little help. As you know, my tractor is 28HP, which, as close as I can tell, is about the same as the 1528. Everything I read calls for the 1570. The dealer came back with the same reply as yours, the 1575, which recommends 33 to 40HP. I certainly don't mind going heavier as long as it's not a problem for my tractor. Thanks for your help.

The backhoe model is dictated by the frame size, more than the hp. The MF 1240 that you have is the same frame size as the MF 1250 and MF 1260. All three originally took the MF 1217 backhoe. The MF 1217 was changed to a MF 1475, then a MF 1575. That is for the equivalent size of tractor anyway. The MF 1217 is a totally different hoe from the latter two. The 14 and 15 have had many changes and improvements. I really don't think that you could find a factory sub-frame for a 1570 that would fit your tractor.

Makes perfect sense now. Jerry, thanks for sharing your time & your knowledge. You've been much more informative than my dealer.
