MF 135 multipower on a 6-spd?

Did some MF 135 tractors with power steering and with 6-speed transmissions (like mine) come WITHOUT multipower? I don"t think this 135 is the "stripped down special model." Also, are the power steering gearbox and controls feasible for a farmer-type mechanic to overhaul? Way too much play in the steering wheel.

The power steering that Willy-N has on his Orchard Special is different from the "Regular" power steering found on most North American made 135"s It is identical to the systems found on the Industrial 2135 and 20. They share the same control valve on the steering column with the regular power steering equipped 135"s as well as hydraulic pumps. The hydraulic oil is routed to left and right cylinders on the front axle. These cylinders are not rebuildable however the new replacement ones are.
The regular power steering has a single large hydraulic cylinder that acts upon the steering sector gears. It is located under the battery tray. I believe aftermarket seal kits are still available for these systems. The control valves can be purchased from this web site and others. I agree 100% with Christos you should have a proper set of manuals before you tackle any thing. Multi-power was an option available for the 6 (12)speed trans. I don"t know if it was ever offered on the late 135"s with the 8(16)speed trans. The 135 special only came with the 6 speed no multipower(according to my sales brouchure)

Mine was a 1967 Gas Deluxe (Z145 Engine) 6-Speed and it didn't come with Multi-power, but like Willy-N said it came with virtually everything else, Power Steering, Pressure Control, Stablizer, Foam-Float Seat, etc.

If you get yourself the Repair/Service Manual they list the way to overhaul the Power Steering Pump and Steering Column in one of the Sections. Don't get the I&T Manual its a waste of money!

Also you might want to check and see which pump you do have as there were different ones in use through out production so having a Parts Manual is helpful as well.

I hope this helps!

I have a better way for you to get manuals - Ebay or AGCO. If you get the vintage manuals, try and get the latest printing date possible as it should have the then-current methods of repair.

Whatever manual you would get from AGCO/Massey-Ferguson will be the most current, and while it costs somewhat more, you'll be in better hands with a genuine Operators, Repair/Service and Parts Manual - you'll need ALL three at one point or another so your total cost should be about 100 bucks.

Also - put PermtranIII (yes I am going to jump in on the fray on this one but I am convinced thats why my hydraulics and power-steering have been acting funny and leaking...see future post) in your Power Steering System and Transmission/Hydraulics. You can get that from AGCO/M-F.

My 1969 MF135 Orchard Perkins Gas did not come with Multipower but it sure did have every thing else. Mark H.
