:-) Hi Gunter, I live in northern part of Norway.

To your tractor. On both sides under your seat, you have 2 round covers. On the right side the cover has a dipstick to check the oil level in the transmission. A little in front of this cover you will find a number.
This number will tell the date and month and year when the centerhousing was cast. And 2-3 weeks later or so the tractor was assembled. This will tell the year of the tractor at least.

Your tractor can be made from very late 1956 to mid-1959.
I don't think your tractor is made in France, from what I know they made the 25 after the grey Fergie.
Your tractor can be both an FE 35 or a MF 35, both were made in UK, the FE 35 always had the Standard 23C 4 cyl. diesel if it had a diesel. A MF 35 can both have a Standard 23C 4 cyl. diesel, or a Perkins 3 cyl. diesel.

A MF 35 serial number consist of 3 letters, and then a number. I have no idea what trick Jack in NB have for finding the serial number, but at least the 3 letters should be possible to determine from a little more info about the tractor.

I am mighty curious how Jack will solve this.

:-)

Bill

Bill, This is not the first time I have asked this question, but it has never been answered. My S/N SNFY360173 seems to indicate that it is a 1964 tractor, and doesn't seem to fit with everything I have heard. It is a 3 cylinder Perkins Diesel, dual clutch, differential lock, luxury (?) seat, and tractormeter, so appears to be a Deluxe. As I mentioned earlier, the plate says it is an FE35, Manufactured in Coventry. Maybe the engine was replaced with the Perkins, would that be easy, because it doesn't show any signs of any funny modifications. Also, it is a positive ground which doesn't make sense for a U. S. manufactured tractor. Now I am not a purist, I am not selling it, and am not hung up on anything, just curious to know more about it. Thanks for listening, and hopefully, straightening me out.

Dean,
My FE35 has the serial number plate on the right hand side of the dash under the throttle. It is also the Perkins 3 cyl diesel. Also, it was manufactured in Coventry, England. That is stated on the s/n plate. Gunter, I agree with the others about your English, at least you are multi-lingual. C. T.

Hello Gunter -

Your English is a h... of a lot better than my French... or Italian.... or German....!! And you probably have all of them.

If you have the four cylinder Standard 23C motor, there should be a serial number stamped on the main block. Right side, over the generator, on a flat surface, just below the cylinder head. "SJ ###### E".

If it's not there, follow the top of the block back toward the rear. There should be a machined flat surface about 50 mm long, 15 mm high, with the letters and numbers stamped into it.

Once you find that, drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and I might have a solution that will help you get your machine registered.

Jack Wetmore in eastern Canada.

Hello Gunter -

Add " .ca" to my e-mail address and try again.

I've tried your e-mail also to see if it works.

My FE35 (now sold) was SDM114996, with motor number SJ80691ED, made in 1958 as far as I can tell.

Your motor number was about 24,000 later than mine - if the serial numbers followed logically, your tractor number could have been in the 138,000 range. John (UK) might know about that.

Bill Brox may have a lead on a starter - he has a good knowledge of cost-effective (read: cheaper than dealer costs!) European parts sources.

I asked in my e-mail if your tractor has a two stage clutch and live power take off - this affects the serial number.

Hope to hear from you!

Jack

Gunter:

I have MF-35 Deluxe and a FE-35. Both have 3 cylinder Perkins diesels and both have serial number plates on the left side of the dash.

Without a serial number plate it is difficult to determine just what you have but the following may help.

The FE-35 is the European made version of the MF-35 though it was sold worldwide. I believe that it was made in France. The 4 cylinder diesel engine used in MF-35s was made by Standard Motors in the UK. This may be what you have in yours. I do not know if other 4 cylinder diesel engines were used in 35s in Europe.

Hopefully someone else will help with other information.

No need to appologize about your English. I just wish that I could speak/write Deutch as well as you can communicate in English.

Dean
