My MH50 has a bucket on the front. It only has power going up. It will lift the bucket but if I have hardly any load it will move very slow or not at all.
I checked the fluid after lifting the bucket and it is quite white and foamy. Is there something I need to know to be sure and get all the old fluid out and do you think changing the fluid will fix my problem? The bucket holds good when left suspended. Thanks for any help and also where can I get a manual for this tractor. I know nothing about it. ohiopicker

I think putting 8 gallons in would be okay. Though I do remember something in my manual about puttin an extra gallon in when the extrenal wet lines were to be used. Then drain down when disconnected. How much oil does your loader hold? You will likely be safe putting a little extra in. Just be sure that water is gone, it trashes intenals worse than sand.

Thanks Aaron I didn"t realize the water was so destructive. I will be sure to get rid of it.
I have about 9 gallons in it now and it seems to be working ok but I still se a little foam.

Foaming of oil generally means aerating of the oil. This can be caused by a leak in the suction side of the system, pulling air into the suction oil stream. It could also be caused by a plugged suction strainer if you have a front pump and a separate reservoir for the loader. If the loader is operated off the tractor hydraulics, you could have a pump that has worn pistons, rings, or valve chambers. A blown o-ring on the bottom of the stand pipe that goes into the top of the pump can also cause low lift power and foaming. This can easily be checked by taking out the bottom bolt that holds on the cover plate the dipstick is in and draining the hydraulic fluid drain down to this point. Then remove the plate and drain a little more oil out until the level is about a half inch below the opening. Look into the opening with a flashlight so you you can see where the standpipe goes down into the pump. Then start the engine and try to raise the loader while looking into the opening, but don't get your eyes too close and wear safety goggles or a full face shield if possible, as some oil may spray out. If you see oil spurting around the bottom of the standpipe, the o-ring is blown. It is best to have someone else work the controls during this test so you can concentrate on watching what is going on without getting your face too close to the opening.

Possible and most likely cause, the hydraulics may have been filled with a Farm Tractor Universal Oil for all applications i.e. engine and hydraulics. Should water contaminate the oil, the detergent/ desperent additive in the oil for engine protection will mix with water and create foam.
Recommend flush the system couple of times with fresh new hyd. oil and when satisfied the system is "clean" refill with the Builders rec.

I bought a dipstick about five years ago for a sixties MF65 at the MF dealer. I would suggest checking with them or ----- --, I am sure they have one. Probably around $10. C. T.

Odds are you have water mixed in with the hy fluid. Most of the time the water gets in by way of the shifting lever boots. Changing the fluid would be the first thing I would do.

Thanks, I"ll do that first. Someone lost the dip stick and I can"t tell if it is filled correctly. Can I just put 8 gallons in and it will be ok? Also, is there anything I should do to make sure I get all the fluid out such as raise bucket etc.? Thank again. ohiopicker
