My dad has a MF 230 that we done a bunch of overdue maintenance on a couple weeks ago including a new power steering filter and oil. A week later the steering quit working all-together I can spin the wheel around all day and nothing moves. It has the hydostatic steering. I loosened the lines at the cylinder and it spits about as much air as oil but will not bleed out to just leak oil, The pump resevoir is full. Can anyone give me an idea where to start with this problem or what are common trouble areas with this system? Thanks Willy

If you have a Perkins diesel engine fill the pump reservoir while the engine is running then with the plug out starting turning the steering wheel but keep the reservoir full while you are turning the wheel it should start to move the wheels keep doing that moving the wheels from stop to stop till the air is no longer forcing the oil out of the reservoir. Replace the plug while the engine is running. If you have the Continental gas engine you will have to remove the top from the reservoir and fill it then replace with the engine shut off each time it gets low while moving the steering wheel while bleeding the air. If bleeding it like that does not make it start to steer then you probably have a piston seal inside the cylinder letting the oil bypass the piston. If I can be of further help Email me
