Just bought a MF203 loader/backhoe. I have no Idea what I have done. I have 10 acres and want to put in a septic, move 10 feet of dirt from a 100X100 area to another, etc.

The prior owner had it for most of the last 25 years and says he babied it....

Some questions for you experts!

Here is what the machine is:

MF 203 (another part also says MF102) Starts and runs strong in all gears & HI/LO. Had the owner elevate it in the front with the bucket and the stablizers in back and turn it off. After 1/2 hour it was still elevated. Next he dug with the backhoe and it worked fine but leaked alot of oil. He agreed to fix that as part of the sale. There is some seepage on some/most of the hydralic lines but no leaks other then noted on the backhoe. I've attempted to attach a picture. PS works good, oil pressure gauge works the hour meter was disconnected at 275 hours rear tires hold air but are shot. It is a Diesel, started easily in 40 degree weather

My questions? What is she worth, I paid $5500?

How deep with the backhoe dig? I don't seem to be able to find specs on it?

What things is this unit known for as far as problems.... what shound I look for?

Do you think It will "fit the bill" for what I want to do with it?
Once again, I really appreciate anything you can tell me about this unit!

Gerald you will need to find out if it has a PTO first. When you get it home snap us a picture of the other side of the 203. 3 point has two smallish control levers to the right of the seat. Some of the linkages may have been removed to accomodate the hoe(if they were there to begin with)You could just ask the current owner. If linkages were removed you will want to ask for them.

OK, Here is another picture of the right of the seat, I think I can see the 2 levers you are talking about.

Yup you have 3point! However it looks like the lift rods and then most likely the lift arms have been removed. Ask to see if they are still with the tractor. You can buy all the bits but it will add up$$$. Next you need to find out if it has a PTO Then you can determine if it has dual clutch. Regardless from what I can see you did good(even it it turns out not to have dual clutch). A working 40hp TLB (and that backhoe is removeable)should be worth $5500 all day long.

Heck, that would fit the bill here and I don't have anything to use it for.... Nice tractor.

$5500 was a good price.

I'm kinda jealous....

Nice machine! 3cyl Perkins diesel most likely indirect injected (bit more smoke a little less power) The MF102 loader has down pressure. Powersteering is usually an issue on these machines but still repairable. Can't tell for sure which backhoe you have most likely a MF220 or a MF185. the 220 has a hydraulic turning motor. The 185 uses cylinders. If it has a 3point hitch and dual clutch you got a deal even better with the manual shuttle trans. All engine parts still available many aftermarket sources. Lots of spare parts available from wrecking yards. Big Dean has a lot of info on his Web Site and can answer any questions. He also has a CD on the Industrials and should cover yours check it out.

Thanks for your replies, I will check out BIG DEANs place and get his CD. I take delivery this Friday and will post serial # and more picts soon. I do know it has a 3 pt and that the backhoe has "quick disconnects". How can I tell if it has "Dual Clutch" and what the heck is the difference between a single and dual clutch anyway!

This is going to be alot of fun (and excerise for my wallet!)

You can tell by looking at the PTO engager. If it has Engine, Neutral and Ground its got live PTO (two stage) and Engine and Ground, its got plain old engine PTO.

With the Double Clutch/Live/Independent PTO, you don't have to stop the PTO shaft to shift gears (I maybe wrong, but at least thats what been my experience with my 135 and thats a industrial model of my tractor.)
