My 1959 MF65 has a gas continental engine. When I work it hard at higher RPM's it pushes oil out around the dip stick quite badly. This is the original dip stick. Is there suppose to be an O ring or seal or do I have a breather some where clogged? Thanks in advance.

You have some blow by and you may have some sludge clogging your breather tube. I don't remember on those, can you remove the breather without taking off the whole rocker cover? If so, take it off and blow compressed air through it or even a water hose if you have good pressure. Let it soak in solvent or gasoline and run a wire through it and pull a cloth patch back. That breather should handle a lot of gases and unless you really have a lot of clearance between piston and sleeve, you should not be blowing stuff past the dipstick.

I guess one question is, do you feel a lot of hot gases leaving breather tube when it is standing still running at 2000 rpm or so? And does your oil get dark with a lot of soot or combustion products in it soon after you change oil?

older engines some times develop blow by or compresion going by the rings. or the crank case vent is not working right. i suspect when under a load there is gasses passing the rings.or blow by as it's called. james
