I need help in identification of a tractor I just bought. I think it is a 1940 101 SR. but I need help in using the serial numbers and the engine block numbers. Can anyone help. The serial numbers are 258703 from the top of the tranny...how do you tell which motor is in it (chrysler or Cont.)

Thanks ya'll,
Lynn

It is a 101 Super with a 217 ci chrysler engine. 101 Seniors with 226 continental engines start at serial number 260018. 101 Supers with 201 ci chryslers end at 258285.

Thanks Tom, Can you tell by the number what the year is? I guess I also need to see if I can start finding some parts for this thing. Do you have any ideas where to start looking? I need an exhaust manifold and some of the sheet metal around the motor.

Again...Thanks,
Lynn

With regards to your sheet metal search, you'd have to be a lucky guy to find original sidecovers for a Super 101 model. If you did, they's probably be pretty bent up. Most farmers took them off since they apparently caused a heating problem. There were 2 on each side, one main one and a smaller one under the tank cover, and between the 2 of them they fully enclosed the engine and surrounding areas. Both are full of louvers. There are guys around that make them but I would expect they are pretty pricey. If you ask about who makes them on this forum, you'll get some contacts for sure.

It is a 101 Super eqipped with a 217 ci chrysler engine. The last 101 Super to have a 201 ci chrysler was 258285. The first 101 Senior (tractors equipped with 226 ci Continental engine) was 260018. Later on, end of 1943 or early 1944 these tractors are rebadged 102G. Eventually they bore decals calling them 102G Senior (1945 or 46).
