What is the best solution to a stuck hydrolic control valve in a MF35 Diesel Deluxe 3 cylinder about a 1961 model? Where can I get repair and parts manuals for this tractor. Big Dean gave me a tip which I tried but did not work the valve loose. Any help greatly appreciated.

John:

The control valve is returned from the lift position by a rather light spring. If the spring is not returning it to exhaust, you may need to remove the pump in order to free it up. Even if you get it to return, it is likely that it will stick again.

I suggest that you remove the pump and replace the control valve. A new control valve costs less than $25.00. Removing the pump will allow you to inspect it for damage and wear, clean out the sump, and readjust the lift control linkage.

I just finished overhauling the pump in one of my MF-35s and it is not a big job. Just line up a helper to remove/replace the lift cover.

Thanks Dean and Arron. I drained and cleaned the fluid the last time this happened so there is no water in the fluid. I think that the best thing is to do like Big Dean said and replace the control valve so that is what is on tap to do next.

Amen on the lift cover. Just quick note, I am rebuilding my pump now and have found that the water that damaged the pump had also frozen inside the control valve spring recess causing the snap ring to break into several pieces. It held in, but had it fallen out, there would be no return on my control valve. Are you sure there is no water in the belly? Mine had nearly 5 gallons of water under the lube. Aaron
