Well, I posted last week regarding a broken bolt in the exhaust flange on my MF135 (1965)continental gas. Received some great advise from the replies. I tried almost all the suggestions from the torch, to the PB Blaster. Even tried vice grips and a pipe wrench. Ended up leaving one of the double threaded studs in there where it was. Ended up breaking another one of the three off with the pipe wrench. I think after fourty years or so those double threaded studs may have welded themselves in place. Therefore, with the two broken studs I cut them off flush with the flange on the exhause manifold and drilled small pilot holes. Then went to a larger drill bit and drilled them out to about 3/8" size. Got a couple of bolts and jam nuts at the hardware store and was able to get the new exhause pipe flange mated up to the manifold flange and tightened everything back into place. Everything seems to be just fine now, sure smoked alot burning off that PB Blaster juice that was on the exhause manifold. Anyway, I'm back in business, thanks for the advise.... I did try almost all of them before having to resort to drilling. JC

At agricultural college in England I was taught the following method of removing broken off bolts in castings.
Place old washer slightly larger diameter internal hole over the top of the broken bolt.
Place old nut over the top of the broken bolt over washer.
Weld into the hole in the nut, filling in the hole of the nut and onto the head of the broken bolt.
The heat warms the casting & the broken bolt.
Used good quality ring spanner on nut to wind out the broken bolt. Works everytime. Regards David

I've got a couple snapped off on my 165, one's off the alternator bracket in the front of the block. Couldn't get a drill on it w/o pulling the front end of the tractor off.

If I can get to it w/ the welder I'll try your method, Thanks!

Jeff
