Hi,

I have a TO-35 I have been using for the last two years. Today I noticed the exhaust manifold was red hot. The red ran the length of the first three cylinders closest to the seat. The temp gauge was OK. I never noticed this before. Is this normal?

Thanks,

It is only noticable at night. It glows red like it was heated by a torch. I was only spreading manure so the load was not too heavy; I guess. I will verify the timing and mixture before I use it again.

Check your ignition timing and/or look for a lean mixture caused by improper mixture adjustment and/or a manifold or carburetor connect flange leak.

Dean:

It is not unusual to see some redness at night when working an engine hard but if you see redness during the daytime simething is wrong.

Retarded ignition timing and/or lean mixture will cause this in a gasoline engine.

When you say red hot are you saying it glows red like metal when cutting it with a torch?? If so nope thats not right and you have either a timing problem and or a clooged exhaust system. Maybe some thing else but not sure
