Hi!
I finally bought a MF 230 diesel tractor,
Its in good running shape, new tires, can't wait to get it home!
Three questions:
1. I'm going to be getting a repair manual soon (and hopfully will never need it ;) )But I want to learn some extra pointers with running it, as I've only run a cantankerous old ford 8n before.
2. This is a odd question, but, has anyone ever run one of these on either biodiesel, or straight vegetable oil?
3. Is there any rubber in the injection pump?
Thanks for all of your help!

Hi!
Sorry!
Any machine (or person in his right mind) would be cantankerous if they didn't have a nice shed with a cement floor, heat, and lighting. EXPECIALLY when they need care, are overworked, and only have a half wit boy to work on them! ;)
I guess I just can't sweet talk a machine proper :D !
I really shouldn't get upset at the ford, It really hasn't had a fair trial. But, unless the buyer offered a high price, I don't think I'd want to part with it!
No offense, I just had to let loose some steam.
Thanks for the info about the biodiesel, I'd much rather pay a farmer (or grow it myself) for fuel, then fund a corporation.
I had asked if there was any rubber in the injection pump, since biodiesel is a little hard on certain types of rubber
Thanks again!

I used to work for a MF dealership as a road service mechanic. One of our customers ran his on biodiesel. You shouldn"t have any problems with it. I personally don"t care for the smell, but it will make the tractor run, and some say it gives the tractor more power.(i"m not sure, though)Pure vegetable oil needs to be refined into biodiesel, you can"t use it in it"s original state. Google biodiesel, and you can find kits to make it yourself. Iv"e seen them before. You have to distill it, and mix in ethanol, or something like that. But, yes, you can run it in your tractor, and it is cheaper.
