I'm trying to remove the pin connecting the End Bracket to the rod on the Power Steering Cyliner on my 65. Should that pin just drive out like the pin connecting the cylinder to the pedestal and does it need to be driven out the top or the bottom? I've used penetrating lubricant on it and banged on it pretty good and it shows no signs of budging. I just want to make sure I'm heading down the right path before I wack on it any more or try to have it pressed out. Randy

The pin on my MF50 installs up from underneath the anchor bracket so I have to take the bracket off (with cylinder attached) and drive the pin down to remove it. The service book seems to indicate that to install the pin you drive it in from above, but if I tried that way with mine it would be left sticking up in the air and I dont see that in any of the pictures in the manuals. I don"t know why mine is different from the book, but it seems to work fine. I would do like Eric says and take it off and have a look to determine what to do.

Randy,
It has been a long time since I rebuilt my power steering cylinder so I looked it up in my Massey service manual. The book says to remove like this: Turn your steering wheel all the way to the left. Remove hoses to cylinder. Remove the pin from the centering turnbuckle. Unclamp the big pin with the screws that tighten the yoke. Drive big pin downward to remove. ( Must have steering turned far left to have enough clearance.) Then remove the bolts that hold the casting to the front pedestal at the other end of the cylinder. The complete unit should lift out then.

The pin you are having trouble with should be easier to remove then. If I remember correctly you drive it up to remove.

My service manual says to drive the pin in from the top, but just says to remove the pin in the cylinder removal instructions. I'll try driving it out from the bottom. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something I was missing that would lead to me ruining something. The pin on the pedestal side came out fine. Thanks all. Randy
