I've got a pretty steady leak from the front of the block that looks like its coming from the front Crank seal. How far am I going to have to tear this thing down to get to it. I'm still getting to know this machine. Randy

Randy You have to remove the front axle support from the engine to replace the front crankshaft seal. Depending on if it has a late or early engine it may be a gasket leaking. The late engine has a gasket that will squeeze out on the left side just above the seal they are real bad about doing that. If you find it is the gasket email me I have a picture that shows how to bolt a small piece flat metal in front of that gasket to stop it from squeezing out.

Well, now I'm wondering if I'm pulling the front end support to replace the Crank seal and other front gaskets, would this be the time to go ahead and do an in-frame overhaul? The tractor starts hard, but runs with minimal smoke after about 5 minutes. When I picked this up awhile back my plan was to repair the lift pump and Power Steering and leave the overhaul for next Winter, but its starting to feel like this is the time. Randy

Well that would save pulling the front support a again to rebuild it but this time of the year you may not want it to be down that long.
