I finally got some time today to do some cutting. I guess I had been on the tractor about an hour cutting at around 1200 rpm/L2 when it happened. I was backing into some thick briars when the tractor made a noise similar to a motor missing. I thought maybe the cutter had broke first, but took a look and it had not.

I throttled down, disengaged the PTO, put the transmission in forward, but the tractor would not move. I cut her off and decided to use the machete for awhile thinking I would just let things cool off and then drive back to the barn and park. An hour later, I cranked her up, drove about 10 feet, but smoke was coming out of the stack and somewhere in the engine just in front of the oil pan. I decided to park and just wait until tomorrow to tow.

Anybody have a guess what has happened?

What is the oil level in the crankcase? Do you have a working oil pressure gauge and did it give any indication of low pressure or a momentary drop in pressure and then recovery? Did the tractor crank normally or did there appear to be abnormal resistance to cranking. Is the coolant level normal and was there any sign of coolant boiling? You may have some seriouc problem here but as long as you did not have a connecting rod greak and punch the block yuo may miss the oworst damage.

Oil pressure was high, checked oil and it was full. Checked coolant before started mowing and was full. After I first cut the tractor off when all this happened, I could not get her to crank afterwards. She would just turn over maybe once or twice and then quit. That's when I decided to let things cool down.

I guess I'll tow her onto my trailer tomorrow and be making a visit to the MF dealer Monday. This just sucks. I was planning to plow my deer food plots this week!!!
