MF 165 auxiliary hydraulics -- how can I tell

I just bought a 1974 MF 165, SN 9A 206985. It has the 4X2 non-Multipower transmission and one factory valve for one double-acting remote cylinder.

The owners manual refers to "Auxiliary Hydraulic System" and then to a "Basic Auxiliary Hydraulic System" and an "Independent Auxiliary System." It also says there is a separate "Operator's Manual of the Auxiliary Hydraulic System"

How can I tell what I have? And does anyone have that manual so I could get a copy? Any other advice on 165 hydraulics is appreciated.

I don't need a lot of hydraulic capacity for 95% of what I do but I do have a hydraulic-motor-driven post hole digger and I know the basic 4.4 gpm pump of the 165 won't do much with that.

The "Basic Hydraulic System" on this series of tractors refers to auxillary hydraulics that are supplied by the three point hitch piston pump. The oil is delivered to the top of the transmission case at the transfer cap. The valve usually is located right under the seat. The earlier tractors TO35 thru 65 were were set up this way. The "Independant Auxillary Hydraulics" use a seperate pump piggybacked to the three point hitch pump and supply oil through the transmission side cover to a seperate auxillary valve. If your tractor is equipped with Multi-power and or Independant PTO the auxillary pump has a seperate set of gears (dual pump}to supply low pressure oil for this purpose (approx. 250 psi}. Some tractors with Multi-power and or Independant PTO had a single pump for this purpose and consequently did not have Independant Auxillary Hydraulics. If the tractor has both systems you can also put a valve where the transfer cap is and use as well. The 2 systems are independant of each other but they both use the same transmission oil.

The manual that you need is p/n 690 562 M2 avail
thru MF/Agco. I have the manual/approx 38 pages
but could be condensed for the 165 portion. We
are leaving town for a while but if not in a
hurry E mail me later.

I have a 65 that came with a loader that has two way control on the bucket and one way on the lift. Two joy sticks in front of the seat control these movements and a third stick along side these, switches the control between the loader and the three point hitch. What I am not sure that I understand is why the three point controls have to be positioned to raise the three point to its max before we get power to the loader.

On the 165 the top position of the draft quadrant is "constant pumping" & the top of the position control quadrant sends full flow to the rear lift piston, or when diverted, to the aux. valve.
