Can anyone tell me if the Massey 50 that I am restoring is a "Hi-Arch". I have not come across any numbers on the tractor to tell me and I can't go by the tires because I have a mis-match set of tires on it. Is there a way to tell?

Yes, there is a 1500 RPM trans and a 1700 RPM
transmission. Chuck

If it has 38" wheels on the back, it is a high arch. If it has 24" or 28" wheels, it is a standard.

Other than the wheels, is there any difference in the motore, transmissions, etc.... My wheels and serial number don't match.

There must have been a difference in gearing somewhere to compensate for the difference in tire diameter. Maybe Big Dean could elaborate on this. Of course, the front spindles are taller on the high archs.

I saw a picture recently that showed a Hi arch 50. The vertical part that carries the wheel ( I dont obviously know what its called ) But it is higher than the front wheel when viewed from the side. If theres nothing above the wheels you dont have a high arch. Hope this is understandable.

The serial number plate to the left of the steering wheel on the dash will tell you. If the
s/n starts with a "S" it is a utility. If it
starts with an "R" or "T" it is a row crop. If
it starts with a "C" it is Hi-arch. If it starts
with a "J" it is a Multi-purpose. The 50 series
in it's different configurations was sold with
24" 28" and 38" rims. The 24" n/a with power
shift rims-the others were. Mostly the parts book
refers to Hi-clear(38") and low clear(28") Chuck.
