I have an opportunity to purchase a MF30B with shuttle transmission or instant reverse. The tractor has been split and the torque converter removed. The guy selling the tractor says the torque is bad and needs to be replaced. He was quoted $2000 for a new one. I am going to call around tomorrow - anyone have any experience here? Suggestions on good MF parts suppliers?

Thanks, Tip

Tip...Is he is going to swap out the Torque Converter put the tractor back together and get the transmission shifting properly? What happened to it to make him think it was the Torque Converter that failed? Maybe you could find a good used Manual Shuttle trans with pressure plate. Does the 30B have 3point and/or PTO? Whats the money on it?

Gary, it is a take it as it sits deal. The tractor has a three point - no PTO. He split it because it was leaking pretty badly and he figured it was leaking from the torque converter. I gather the torque has cracks on the outside casting, beyond that, I don't know what is wrong or whether it is repairable.

The money is low - couple hundred and it becomes my problem.

Thanks, Tip

Tip.. the 30B is a nice size tractor for loader or backhoe work. Less than $1000 is a bargain. If it isn't wore out and the engine runs OK you could safely sink $2000 into it a still get your money back especially if it had the manual shuttle trans.
You should seek out Big Dean. He likely has had experience with the IR trans. I had one in a MF204(different trans same principle)it struck oil also and I sold it as I had decided that I wanted a loader tractor with a clutch. MF40.

Thanks for the info Gary. I am trying to figure out whether the guy has the old torque converter - think I will probably go for it and will keep you posted.

Regards, Tip
