I'm in the process of building my 44 engine, does any body know what the crank endplay should be?I pulled the crank timing gear off and found shims I'm assuming to shim endplay, what I thought I would do is set up a dial indicator on the end of the crank and move the crank backward or forward to figure out where its at and add or remove shims to get to where it needs to be,but I'm not sure I'm right on the shims. Also what do the rods, mainsand head torque to?Any help is appreciated.Eric

J. Schweibert is correct. The shims adjust the crankshaft end play on the H260 engine. There are two brass thrust washers on the front main bearing. The shims behind the timing gear determine the end play. Check the clearance the way you described, and adjust for .006-.010 endplay with the shims. The later engines and the H277 used a center thrust main bearing, and therefore endplay is predetermined.

Torque:

Head 130-140 Rods 85-90 Mians 100-110

Early H model Continental engines used that set up to adjust crankshaft endplay. Later Continental engines used a flange type trhust bearing. Is this gas or diesel and a 260 or 277 engine?
