I am a retired urbanite using 80ish acres to do what I think I need to do.

Have 7 tractors, 1 Gray, 2 Green, and 4 Blue. Discounting the Green since they are 3x the hp, I really like my Gray (MF 35 Perkins 3-152 diesel) over the Fords. I really do. No I don't like it, I love it; plus I have a local MF dealer that gets parts for me to fix what needs fixin....trivia.

Neat hobby. It's what I do in my spare time, and, being single, I have more options than many.

I've 8 old tractors that I have been working on and using none, except the Kubota that I rely on to mow the lawn, newer than 1966.

I have a 1961 MF-35D and a 1962 (?) FE-35 both with Perkins diesels. I've been going over both this winter getting them ready for mowing next summer but have not had the opportunity to work either much yet. If things go as planned I will probably use one to replace my (very good) 51 8N with Sherman combo next summer. Mixed emotions about this though as the 8N is very nimble and user friendly while the 35s seem less so.

Aside from the Kubota, all of my others are Ford gassers. My biggest complaint about the MFs is that parts seem to cost quite a bit more than for the vintage Fords and the MF dealer is 25 miles away while the NH dealer is only 3.

If you have a parts manual you can conduct business over the phone with your remote MF dealer.

Don't know how you can compare your MF's to the N. Mine is a '64 so it's the same setup as yours; 6 speed, LIVE PTO, diesel 25% more hp.

Well I had a TO-20 so I can understand some of your fondness.

No agruments about anything that you say. The N is more nimble and IMHO at least more user friendly.

Mark, My only question is: If you are retired, what are you doing with seven tractors? My neighbor is retired and was "gentleman farming" for the last twelve years (wheat, and some cattle) on about 600 acres, and he only had three tractors. Of course his big one was a four wheel drive (the tires were taller than me and I am 6'0") John Deere. Thanks neighbor, C. T.

Well C.T. Sir, they just grew on me over the last couple or so years. Don't know how it happened but it did. Funny thing is that I use every one of them and by having more than one, I can adapt the tractor to the job that it does best and not have to change implements every time the weather changes. That little perkie just purrs like a kitten, and if it needs to tug it doesn't whine or complain, it just tuggs and tuggs.

Thanks for asking.

I understand perfectly why he has 7 tractors. If I had one less spousal unit (or a more understanding model), I would surely have 6 more.... I only have 1.333 acres.... and it ain't tillable.

I think I can read between the lines. What you have to do is find her sweet spot (what she really want's done around the place) and if you can take care of that she won't see all that old iron you are hauling to the back 40.....er ah 1/2 acre. Grin.

Sooo..... let me get this straight, I leave the hay rake on my Farmall, leave the snow plow and blade on the JD, leave the mower/cond on my MF 135, so i obviously need another tractor for the baler !!! Can't wait to explain this one to my better half.

Regards JJ.

Now you are getting the picture. Tell her you have back trouble and can't get the implements off and on like you used to. grin.
