Air-Locked Injector Pump

I recently purchased a MF 135 diesel - 1970. While taking it off the trailer, it ran out of fuel and now I can not get it started. I have been told the injector Pump (which is new) may be air-locked. When I prime the lever on the fuel pump or turn the motor over I get fuel coming out anywhere in the system where a fitting has been loosened. The only place I do not get fuel is between the injector pump and the injectors. I even loosened the 5/16th fittings on the side of the injector pump and get fuel coming out of there. Any suggestions on fixing this problem and getting the air out of the injector pump? Thanks!

I tried what you suggested. Pumped the lever on the fuel pump until I got a steady stream of fuel coming out of each bleeder screw individually. I then cracked the nut going into one of the injectors and cranked for at least 30 seconds three different times. No fuel coming out by the nut where the line goes into the injector, the engine did not turn over like it wanted to start and I never heard the injector pump click like you suggested. What am I doing wrong or is there some other way to get this tractor to start? Thanks!

Thanks for the information and your quick reply. I haven't had an opportunity to try what you suggested, but will try sometime this week after work or this weekend.

If you have a clean stream of fuel coming out of the bleeder screws on the injection pump no air bubbles in it when you pump the hand lever then you loosen one of the injector lines compression nuts and crank it over with the starter till you have fuel squirting out around the injector line compression nut it should start then you will here the injection pump start clicking just before it starts. It may take a 1/2 minute or so of cranking before you start getting fuel out of the injector line. Hope this helps
