The metering valve is a high precision part, it sits in a bore in the rear of the pump and controls fuel flow. It can stick causing the symptoms you describe. Take it to a specialist, as you need clinical cleanliness and may do more damage to an otherwise salvegable pump.

Wondered what happened to you and the situation:)
Sounds as noted "stuck" time for an injection shop visit, unless your lucky to remove the top cover and discover a simple problem to solve.
Hard bullit to bit but shop time will solve futher fuel/pump/injector problems happening later on, and ease your mind as to what you have and should/could of done, been there paid for that:)
good luck
