Hi,
I just bought a MF 275, it has a high and low trans. with three gears in each range, so it has 6 gears. It also has a lever that says multi power and that it should be used for engine braking. Is that all the multi power does? or is it another range that would make it so it has 12 gears? can it be used while on the go? or do I need to clutch to engage/disengage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard.

Hi,
Multi-Power effectively doubles the standard 6 speeds 2R to 12. What you get is an approx 33% drop in forward (and reverse) speed from the mechanical ratio by shifting to low. On the road or in any sloping terrain the lever should be kept in 'High' so that you hve engine braking.
It also has a feature called 'Hill Hold'. If you are facing uphill in a forward gear and press the clutch pedal in the first stage, the tractor will not run back until you push the pedal right to the floor. Conversely if you are facing downhill in reverse, the tractor will not run forward. You may encounter difficulty changing gear. There is nothing wrong. It is the Hill Hold working. To change gear shift to LOW, wait a second and then change gear. Shift the MP lever back to HIGH.
You may be aware that you cannot tow a tractor wiyh Multi-Power to start it.
MP is a great system for something like baling. When the row gets bigger briefly, flick the MP lever to low, this gives the baler time to cope with the extra crop. When you have passed the excess flick back to high without using the clutch on either occasion.
In short; keep it in High as much as possible.

Yes it is a hi-low range,if you are stopped to change gears it will shift easyer if you put it in low MP,but never use low MP in road gear it will freewheel down hill (a very very scary thing) Oh yea shift on the go no clutch.
